Neon Trial

Neon signs above the doorway
Every face is watching me
Like the city made a courtroom
And the night became the jury

Every step becomes a question
Every word becomes a crime
But I learned to keep on moving
When they're wasting all my time

Lights flash
Doors close
Everybody thinks they know

Welcome to the neon trial
Everybody wants a file
Everybody wants to judge me
Before they stay a little while

Neon trial
Neon trial
Put my name across the wall
You can talk
You can stare
I don't really care at all
I don't really care at all

Every camera wants a headline
Every stranger wants a clue
They keep building up a story
Without knowing what is true

I can hear the city talking
Like a rhythm in my head
But the louder they accuse me
The more carefully I step

Lights flash
Doors close
Everybody thinks they know

Welcome to the neon trial
Everybody wants a file
Everybody wants to judge me
Before they stay a little while

Neon trial
Neon trial
Put my name across the wall
You can talk
You can stare
I don't really care at all
I don't really care at all

Read the page
Turn it twice
Truth is never black and white
Raise your voice
Make your claim
I still know my real name

Welcome to the neon trial
Let them watch another while
They can write another story
I will answer with a smile

Neon trial
Neon trial
Watch the accusations fall
Watch the accusations fall

When the morning hits the city
There'll be nothing there at all
